BRUNSWICK — Three Brunswick masters swimmers braved a winter storm to compete — and win — at the New England Fall Championships.
The three-day competition, with 480 entrants, was held at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s 25-meter pool.
Dale Syphers captured first-place finishes in the 50- and 100-meter freestyles for men 60-64 years of age. He also placed second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 50 butterfly.
Fred Schlicher won the 200-meter medley and 200 backstroke events, and placed second in the 100 butterfly for men 65-69. His backstroke time of 2:48 established a New England record.
Dave Bright, the Brunswick High School swim coach, topped the field in the 200 medley and placed second in the 200 back for men 60-64.
