BRUNSWICK — Gulf of Maine Books will feature a reading and book signing by Brunswick author Sarah Slagle Arnold for her new book, “Faith and Madness — A Spiritual and Psychological Journey,” on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the 134 Maine St. store.
Arnold is a psychologist/psychoanalyst and writer living in Maine. For 30 years she was in private practice in New York City and on the faculty of the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health.
The memoir takes place when Arnold, a fun-loving, successful college sophomore, slips into a nightmarish depression and becomes dangerously anorexic and suicidal. All who know her are mystified. “Faith and Madness” unravels this mystery and tells how a department store, a savvy psychiatrist and an Anglican priest restored her to health.
The event is free, and open to the public. For information, call 729-5083.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
