TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat eighth-grade girls basketball team won their home opener recently over Oxford Hills, 56-25 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Eagles’ pressure defense and intensity to start the game was too much for the Vikings, as Mt. Ararat pumped out to an early 10-0 run and led 19-8 after the first quarter.
The Eagles continued to pressure Oxford Hills, holding the Vikings to just two points in the second quarter. Lillie Singleton scored eight of her game-high 17 in the quarter as Mt. Ararat took a 34-10 lead into the half.
The second half started with the Eagles scoring 20 points in the third quarter to extend the lead to 54-18.
Mt. Ararat had three players score in double digits, with Elsa Daulerio and Emily Bontatibus scoring 10 apiece to go with Singleton’s 17 for the Eagles. Ten different players hit the scoring column for Mt. Ararat.
Oxford Hills was led by Sarah Dillingham with six points, while Syndi Smith and Ashee Farrar each had four in the losing effort.
