WISCASSET
In an effort to help families in need, the Feed Our Scholars school supply drive is going on now at the First Congregational Church on Route 1 and St. Philip’s Church on Hodge Street.
Those wishing to help out can drop off notebooks, pencils and other school supplies in the boxes provided at both locations.
Holly Morgan, a special education teacher at Wiscasset Elementary School, said that the supplies have “made a great difference for the students,” and she hopes people will give generously again this year.
Materials needed include paper, notebooks, pencils, pens, glue, tape, markers, crayons, regular as well as snub-nosed scissors, simple calculators, rulers, assignment books, backpacks, boxes of tissues and art supplies.
All supplies collected will be divided between Wiscasset Elementary and Wiscasset Middle High School and will be forwarded to the appropriate school.
Feed Our Scholars also accepts donations by check. Send a check made out to Feed Our Scholars, c/o St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578. Please note ‘school supplies’ on the memo line.
FOS is also accepting donations of knitted items for the upcoming winter season. Hats, mittens, gloves, socks and scarves provide students with much-needed warmth during frigid days on the playground.
Call St. Philip’s at (207) 882- 7184 for more information.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
