Ordinary Time

All the major feast days are behind us and we now enter into what is often referred to in the church as Ordinary Time. From now until Advent we will walk with Jesus and his disciples through the hills and plains of Galilee, and beside the Galilean Lake, as he teaches, feeds the hungry, heals the sick, performs miracles and casts out demons. This is a rich time in the life of the church as we learn more about his life and ministry among the poor and displaced people of his time. We come to know Jesus more intimately, as a friend and someone we can call upon in times of trouble and sorrow. But even as we enter into Ordinary Time in the life of the church, we experience extraordinary time in the world of nature. The earth has received a good soaking to sustain the deep roots of the trees, and to fill the rivers, lakes and streams. We are surrounded by flowers and greenery, and the colors are breathtaking. The warm, lazy days of summer lie ahead, so be prepared to get out and enjoy the grace and wonder of it all.
