The annual Richmond Days festival will be held this weekend, July 22-24, at the Richmond waterfront. The theme this year is Hawaiian Luau, which will be reflected in many of the activities over the weekend, as well as in the community built floats during Saturday’s parade.

Things will kick off Friday evening with a children’s parade at 6:30, as well as Cupcake decorating, a show by the Woodside One-Wheelers unicycle troupe, and an 8:30 p.m. outdoor viewing of “Lilo and Stitch.”

“Friday Night is certainly child-oriented,” said Victoria Boundy, director of community and business development at the Richmond town office, which hosts the event. “This weekend is all about getting the whole family out there.”

Saturday’s activities include the parade at 10 a.m, Swan Island tours, a barbeque from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., lobster crate races, inflatable bouncy houses, Cirque de Light hula performances and lessons, a children’s limbo contest, a performance by ’80s band G3eks and a Hawaiian pig roast hosted by The Pig Kahuna at 4 p.m. on Front Street.

“We like to change the festival theme up every year,” said Boundy. “The new (Hawaiian) theme makes it fun for all of us and brings new energy every year.”

And starting this year, the town has added a third day to the festival. New activities on Sunday include the Swan Island 5k (ferry ride to the island between 730-8 a.m., race at 9 a.m.), Swan Island Family Canoe and Kayak trip complete with a scavenger hunt and other activities on the island, and an art show at Southard House Museum at 2 p.m.

All activities and events besides food and private vendors are free of charge.

“The festival is free so that people can celebrate the town and enjoy what’s going on in the community,” said Boundy.
