BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department recently held the Sixth- Grade Girls Basketball Tournament.

Ararat captured the championship, picking up a 37- 24 win in the title game.

After a 10- 10 opening quarter, Ararat took control, out- scoring Bonny Eagle, 12-2 in the second for a 22-12 halftime lead. Ararat’s lead grew to 13 points, 33- 20, after three quarters.

Lillie Singleton paced Ararat with 13 points, seven coming in the third quarter. Emily Bontaibus added eight of her 10 points in the opening half.

Meaghan Champagne led Bonny Eagle with 10 points.

At the free- throw line, Ararat was 8-of-20, while Bonny Eagle shot 2-of-5.

Yarmouth 18, G-NG 16

In a low-scoring affair, Yarmouth held on for a win over Gray- New Gloucester in the opening game of the tournament.

Yarmouth posted quarter leads of 8- 2, 10- 7 and 14- 13. Katelyn D’Appolonia had a game-high eight points in the win.

Grace Begin paced G-NG with seven points.

Yarmouth made 2-of-8 at the stripe, with the Patriots going 3-for-10.

Ararat 43, Wells 21

Bontaibus scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second quarter as Ararat rolled to a win.

Ararat claimed leads of 11-8, 27-12 and 32-18 on the way to the victory.

Singleton pitched in 10 points, Elsa Daulerio eight, and Ararat finished 6- of- 10 at the charity stripe.

Grace Ramsdell had seven points and Riley Hansen six points for Wells, which went 1-of-7 at the line.

Bonny Eagle 19, Brunswick 11

Bonny Eagle stretched a

10-3 halftime lead into a 19-6 edge through three quarters en route to the opening round win.

Brunswick trailed 4-2 after a quarter and held Bonny Eagle to just three fourth-quarter points.

Jay-Lee Sturgeon was solid for Brunswick with 10 points. Brunswick struggled at the free-throw line, making just 5-of-20.

Jordan paced the win with six points. Bonny Eagle was 1-of-7 at the stripe.

Ararat 42, Yarmouth 22

Ararat punched its ticket to the title game, jumping out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead and never looking back.

Bontaibus had 14 of her 21 points in the first quarter eruption, while Singleton picked up seven and Daulerio six.

D’Appolonia paced Yarmouth with nine points in the loss.

At the charity stripe, Ararat was 10- of- 22 and Yarmouth 2-of-9.

Bonny Eagle 21, Coastal Hoops 13

Bonny Eagle advanced to the championship by holding Coastal to just one fourth-quarter point.

Jordan had five points in the win, with Sydney Noble adding four.

Olivia Stiles picked up six points in the loss for Coastal, which trailed 6-4, 15-7 and 21- 12 at the quarter breaks.

Coastal was 3-of-14 at the free-throw line, while Bonny Eagle missed its two attempts.

Brunswick 26. G-NG 11

In the first of two consolation games, Brunswick pulled away in the third quarter for the win over the Patriots.

Brunswick led 4-1 and 10-5 at the first two quarter breaks, but doubled its point total in the third, grabbing a 20-9 lead.

Sturgeon had six points in the win, with Morgan Foster and Logan Brown adding five points apiece.

Abby Shaw paced Gray- New Gloucester with four points.

Brunswick was 4-of-16 at the line, with the Patriots making 1-of-5.

Wells 37, Coastal 10

Wells jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the opening frame and cruised from there.

Ramsdell had 12 points in the win, with Hansen adding seven.

Payson Kaler had five points in the loss.
