AUBURN — The Mt. Ararat/ Lisbon/ Morse boys high school hockey team went into the third period battling a feisty Poland/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill team, tied 1-1 as the 26ers looked for their first victory of the season.
The Eagles stepped up in the final frame, scoring five unanswered goals to win 6-1 at Norway Savings Bank Arena Tuesday night.
Tyler Lacascio continued his strong play, leading the Eagles with two goals and two assists. Noah Austin had one goal and two assists, and captain Mark Abreu scored two goals. Fellow captain Ryley Austin also scored, and Tyler Halls added an assist.
Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/ Morse netminder Cade Charron was steady throughout, earning the victory by making 11 saves on 12 shots.
The 26ers’ lone goal was scored shorthanded by Deryk Belanger. Goaltender Kenny Humphrey was outstanding in the losing effort, making 25 saves on 31 shots.
Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/ Morse (7-5) finished 0 for 2 on the power play, while Poland/GNG/Oak Hill (0- 12) went 0 for 6.
The Eagles get a break in the action, not playing again until they visit South Portland/Waynflete/ Freeport on Feb. 4 at Troubh Ice Arena in Portland.
