A Portland man was charged with Class A robbery Wednesday after allegedly attempting to steal clothing from L.L. Bean, assaulting a security guard and resisting arrest by police.
Andrew Rupard, 28, of Portland was charged with robbery, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and violating condition of release following the incident, which took place just after 3 p.m. in the retail store, Freeport police Detective Gino Bianchini said.
The security guard was treated at the scene by rescue personnel.
Rupard remained at Cumberland County Jail on Thursday morning pending a court appearance. His bail amount was not immediately available.
