On Saturday, Aug. 15, a new show opens at ICON. The gallery is pleased to welcome an exhibition of framed works on paper and Mylar by Amparo Carvajal- Hufschmid and Claire Seidl.

The creative strategies of the two artists have points in common, though the results are quite different. Both begin their work with an image produced by a process of printing, followed by an individual series of steps to realize the possibilities of the original basic image.

The dozen Claire Seidl drawings in the show are done on Mylar, are gestural and abstract, but with a consciousness of the natural world of the Rangeley, Maine area where she works when she is not in her New York studio.

Amparo Carvajal- Hufschmid lives and works in Alton, New Hampshire. She refers to her layered work as assemblages. They are abstract and deal with color, texture and geometry. The handmade paper she uses she makes herself.

The exhibition opens with a reception for the artists from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. on weekdays and 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays.
