Inspired by nature and an initial donation from Woolwich muralist John Gable, eight original canvasses have been donated to the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust to be sold at a live auction from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Tickets are limited for the Art of the Estuary Celebration and Auction and are selling quickly.
Gable, whose works appear in the Smithsonian Institution, the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in DC, and Maine’s Capitol Rotunda, has been joined by the following artists and canvasses:
• Peter G. Cook – An oil painting of a lobster boat at its mooring; a gift from the Folinsbee Art Trust
• Evelyn Dunphy – A watercolor scene of Merrymeeting Bay
• John F. Folinsbee – An oil painting of Midcoast Maine by the 20th century American landscape painter whose family has summered on Montsweag Road in Woolwich for generations; also a gift of the Folinsbee Art Trust
• John Gable – An acrylic painting of springtime at the Nequasset fish ladder in Woolwich
• Claudette Gamache – A pastel depiction of a view from Bonyun Point on Westport Island
• Maret Hensick – A mixed media piece depicting flowers growing along rock ledges of the Kennebec at Days Ferry
• Keith Oehmig – A watercolor painting of Georgetown ledges in late March
• Stuart Ross – An oil painting of the woods at Thorne Head Preserve in Bath
All proceeds benefit the land trust’s conservation program and will support KELT’s ongoing efforts to conserve, restore and instill appreciation of the land and water resources of the Kennebec Estuary. An online catalogue will be available in early August; art is on display through Aug. 17 at KELT, 92 Front St. Bath. Tickets may be purchased online at www.kennebecestuary.org, or by calling Jane McGowan at (207)442-8400. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 1128 Bath, ME 04530.
