BATH — The Bath Parks and Recreation Department, with support from Fields for our Future and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick will host the fourth annual Michael Murphy Trail Race on Saturday.
“The Murph” is a mixed terrain, five-mile race on Bath’s Whiskeag Trail.
Participants will be bused from McMann Field to the Sewall Woods Trail, with the race scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The race route includes obstacles like tree roots, rocks and bog bridges, with some winding, hilly and narrow areas.
The event honors Lieutenant Michael Murphy, a highly decorated Navy Seal who lost his life in a mountaintop battle in Afghanistan in 2005.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
