WISCASSET — Maeve Carlson’s individual effort gave the Wiscasset High School girls soccer team the only goal it needed in a 2-0 Mountain Valley Conference win on Monday against Winthrop.
The Wolverines won their second straight to improve to 5-7-1 and hosts Hall-Dale on Friday in their final regular season contest. Wiscasset currently sits in 12th place in the Western Maine Class C Heal Point Standings, with 13 teams advancing to the postseason.
Carlson weaved through traffic to give Wiscasset a 1-0 lead with 22:34 left in regulation. Hanna Foye’s direct kick from 40-yards out completed the scoring.
The Wolverines held a 41-0 shots advantage. Winthrop (1-12) goaltender Haley Choate turned aside 31 shots. Wiscasset finished with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
“We need to have a good week of practice, knowing that Friday’s game is big for us,” said Wiscasset coach Duane Goud, whose Wolverines host the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on their Senior Night.
