DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts in Damariscotta, is inviting artists to submit work for its upcoming “Faces and Figures” Exhibition. Work can be dropped off anytime during gallery hours up until Saturday, October 4 at 4 pm. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Oct 10 from 5-7. The exhibition will hang until November 6. The juror for the exhibition will be Ed McCartan.

We are seeking submissions of figurative art in any media, depicting form or faces of humans or (other) animals. Sculpture and fine crafts welcome. Artists can enter up to three works. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width – and for safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. Entry forms are available online or at the gallery.

The juror, Ed McCartan, is a painter with a studio in Ft. Andross in Brunswick. His work is experimental in nature, utilizing a variety of styles and media in both an abstract and realist manner. He holds an MFA in painting from SUNY, Albany, as well as degrees in art education, theology and philosophy. He has taught on all levels of education, most recently at the Emma Willard School in Troy, NY and Russell Sage College in that same city. His specialty has been painting and art history. He currently teaches classes at Midcoast Senior College in Brunswick. Ed’s work hangs in the permanent collections of several museums and in corporate and private collections around the world.
