TOPSHAM — The Topsham Parks and Recreation Department and the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust have set the date for this year’s Tour De Merrymeeting Bay Bike Ride for Aug. 3.
The Bike Ride is a fundraiser for the Head of Tide Park, which is an extraordinary conservation project that conserves the head of a tide area of the Cathance River in Topsham. The conservation protects and enhances the wildlife in this area, including a 15-foot waterfall.
Participants in the bike ride will have a choice of two scenic routes. One goes 25 miles, starting along the Androscoggin River and the shores of Merrymeeting Bay, and then the Kennebec River in Bowdoinham before returning to Topsham.
The longer, 50-mile route follows the same rivers into Dresden, Woolwich and Bath on the way back to Topsham.
At the finish line, participants and volunteers will receive free T-shirts and celebrate with a barbecue at the Foreside baseball field in Topsham.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
