FREEPORT —Acclaimed Maine author Lily King will read from and talk about her books as part of the “Meet the Author” series sponsored by Friends of the Freeport Community Library Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the library.
King’s three novels have each received rave reviews and critical acclaim. “Father of the Rain,” her third book, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice, winner of the 2010 New England Book Award for Fiction and the 2011 Maine Literary Award for fiction. Set in Nixon-era New England, it is the story of a woman’s lifelong loyalty to her father and the magnetic pull of family.
“The Pleasing Hour,” King’s first novel, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and an alternate for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Her second book, “The English Teacher,” was a Publishers Weekly Top Ten Best Novel of the Year and a Chicago Tribune Best Book of the Year.
Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing at the free event. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information, visit freeportlibrary.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
