TURNER — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team dropped its opener game in Turner Friday, 46-38.
Tripp got out to an early 19-9 lead early in the second period and really never looked back. The Eagles staged a fourth-quarter comeback, but never got closer than five points.
Sophie Gilbert had 13 points, and Hailey Demascus had 12 points for the hosts.
Lauren Sturgess had a gamehigh 19 points for Mt. Ararat, with Miranda Williams and Maranda Burgess each adding six points .
Burgess (three blocks, two steals), Sturgess (four steals) and Taylor Wienckowski (three steals), played well on defense, but the Eagles struggled on the boards giving up too many second chances.
