TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team opened up their season at home against Tripp Middle School on Friday with a 51-36 win.
In the first half, the teams went back and forth taking the lead then falling behind by a few points. Tripp shot well from the outside while the Eagles pounded their transition game.
At the half, Mt. Ararat led by five points. In the second half, the Eagles came out strong with some defensive pressure which forced Tripp turnovers.
Michael Rogers and Peter Lavan played some standout defense and pulled down some vital rebounds for the Eagles. On the offensive side, Kyle Brennan had 13 points and Blair Kopp four. Ryan Mello and Nick Merrill contributed both with strong defensive steals and points. Mello scored 16 and Merrill 12.
