The Cosmopolitan Club has seen many successes these past six months, including greater interest among members and among senior class girls at Morse High School.

During its recent annual meeting, the local women’s club inducted two new members, made nominations for the 2013-14 board, reviewed updated meetinghouse rental materials, amended to the bylaws and introduced the 2013-14 financial budget.

Since March, it’s been a busy and productive agenda.

Event highlights include a philanthropic donation to the Iris Network of Portland from the Tribute to Helen Keller in mid-April.

Former state Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Richmond, and state Rep. Jennifer DeChant, D-Bath, recognized the women’s club’s 100th anniversary in late April.

The club increased attendance of Morse High School senior girls at its 60th Annual Senior Tea in May.

Club members conducted positive teambuilding to organize and execute the Strawberry Shortcake Festival traditionally held on July 4.

“Thirteen members were together talking and laughing as they shucked strawberries Wednesday night,” Cosmopolitan Club President Michele Ober said. “Then 19 members and friends prepared and served 320 shortcakes on July 4. Several members and friends came back that Saturday to sell 60 to-go shortcakes from the porch. Now that’s teamwork.”

These events have heightened awareness of the club’s purpose and goals resulting in increased membership, Ober said.

Previous attendance of seven members last December has increased to 19 members at the annual meeting. she said.
