BRUNSWICK — Ten days into its attempt at “crowd-funding,” Eveningstar Cinema is about a quarter of the way toward its goal of raising $57,000.
According to SeedandSpark.com, the website that is hosting the fundraising drive, approximately $15,415 had been contributed as of Tuesday morning.
Theater owner Barry Norman is foundering beneath the financial weight of converting the small basement cinema from analog reels to digital projection. He’s hopeful that enough people will want to preserve the neighborhood cinema that they’ll contribute whatever they can toward offsetting the conversion cost. Each contribution entitles the donor to a range of “thank-you” gifts, such as free concessions and admissions, T-shirts and one-second’s worth of celluloid filmstrip from a movie preview trailer.
