Contrary to some reports, it was not a high-speed chase Wednesday that led to the arrest of two men accused of armed robbery at a Union residence.

Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff ’s Office said Thursday that lawenforcement officers from the Lincoln County and Sagadahoc County sheriff’s offices, as well as the Maine Marine Patrol, assisted in pursuing the car approximately two miles after it failed to stop.

Eventually the operator did stop on his own, in Wiscasset.

A Lincoln County Sheriff ’s deputy arrested Paul Milardo, 40, of Thomaston; and David Williams Jr., of Middletown, Conn., on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault. They also face charges of theft of drugs.

More charges may be pending, Carroll said.

The Knox County Sheriff ’s Office responded to a reported armed robbery at a residence on the Common Road in Union at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Carroll said that the victim told deputies someone had forced his way into his apartment with a gun, struck him in the head, forced him into his bathroom, locked the door and demanded money and drugs.

Upon arrival, deputies received information that the alleged suspects had left in a white Nissan sedan. Further investigation revealed a possible license plate on the vehicle. The information was passed onto other agencies.

A short time later, the vehicle was located, heading south on U.S. Route 1, Carroll said. A Lincoln County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase ensued, Carroll said. The chase lasted a few miles before ending in Wiscasset.
