ROCKLAND — The Summer Solstice downtown celebration is scheduled to be held on June 22 and will include a 5K road race at 6 p.m.
Downtown Rockland will be closed for the annual “block” party and runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to run or walk this 5K course that will take them through Rockland neighborhoods and along the Maine coast.
Prizes will be awarded to winners and recognition for age divisions 1-100.
This race is the fourth in the “GO! Malawi” runners’ series and all money raised will benefit the orphaned children of Malawi who are served by founder and Midcoast native Janet Littlefield. In 2013 she will provide private education for over 60 children and give them “hand-up and a chance for a productive life.”
Registration will be available the night of the race starting at 4:30 p.m. Race-day registration will be $20 for a single, $35 for a couple and $45 for a family of three — $10 per extra family member.
