TOPSHAM — The Maine Forest Service is investigating the cause of a woods fire that burned about an acre and a half Sunday afternoon.
Captain Greg Payson of the Topsham Fire Department said the fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. in a wooded area of the Harry C. Crooker & Sons pit along Route 196. With aid from Brunswick and Lisbon fire departments, Topsham crews had the fire under control within approximately a half-hour; all units cleared the scene by 4:43 p.m. West Bath covered Topsham’s station. Sunday was a Class 3 “high” fire day on a scale of 1 to 5, Payson said; no burning permits were issued.
