BRUNSWICK
No one was injured Thursday when a public works dump truck with the dump body left up snagged a telephone wire then damaged two vehicles.
Brunswick police responded to the incident Thursday at about 1:30 p.m. Lt. Tom Garrepy said the dump truck, a 2008 Freightliner belonging to Brunswick’s public works department, was operated by 48-year-old Bryan Oden of Woolwich.
Oden had dumped a load of snow on property where the town piles it during winter, located off Church Road behind a Bath Iron Works satellite facility. He then proceeded to drive down Marriner Street with the dump body still up.
The dump body caught a wire, which Garrepy estimated was 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and the truck continued with the wire lodged between the truck cab and dump body.
The wire landed on the hood and was dragged up and over a white Ford 150 pickup truck that was parked along the street; and then it struck the front bumper of a 2005 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle. Both vehicles belonged to BIW employees.
FairPoint Communications was called and responded to restore the wire. No one was injured and no charges were filed.
