TOPSHAM
Brunswick American Legion Post 20 is sponsoring a veterans recognition event on Saturday, March 9, at Legion Post 202 on Foreside Road in Topsham.
The state is continuing its mission to present an honorable service certificate to every Maine veteran who has served in the military. Legion posts in Topsham, Harpswell and Brunswick are regularly hosting these award programs.
Among those slated for recognition at Saturday’s event are the family of a veteran who died in the line of duty, who will receive a Gold Star Honorary Service Medal; two Purple Heart recipients, with a Maine Silver Star Honorary Service Medal; and three families who will be honored with Blue Star Service banners in recognition of their loved ones currently on active military duty.
In addition, 32 veterans will be recognized for their past military service: four World War II veterans; four Korean War veterans; 15 Vietnam War veterans; and nine Persian Gulf War veterans.
Peter Ogden, director of the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services, will be present to make the award presentations.
The program starts at 1 p.m.; light refreshments will follow.
