Several thousand homes lost electricity for an hour Tuesday night when utility crews had to make an emergency wire repair on Baribeau Drive.
Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice attributed the repair to a broken ceramic insulator atop a utility pole.
“The insulator broke, which brought a live transmission wire down onto the pole’s cross-arm, which started burning,” Rice said. “It was an emergency situation.”
A total of 6,781 customers in Brunswick, Harpswell and Topsham were affected by the outage, which occurred at 7:44 p.m. and lasted an hour.
