The Farm Service Agency of Cumberland/York Counties is accepting applications for Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments for the 2011 crop year, starting Oct. 22 through June 7, 2013.
The program authorizes aid to farmers and ranchers who suffered crop losses caused by natural disasters through Sept. 30.
To be eligible, a farm or ranch must have at least a 10 percent loss on a crop of economic significance; an inusrance policy under the Federal Crop Insurance Act; and be located in a county declared a primary disaster by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
Individual producers may also be eligible if the actual production on the farm is less than 50 percent of the normal production on the farm due to a natural disaster.
Producers considered socially disadvantaged, a beginning farmer or rancher, or a limited resource farmer may be eligible without insurance.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
