BRUNSWICK — A $2.4 million grant will help groups plan activities to increase healthful eating.

In Sagadahoc County, a Healthy Maine Partnership program coordinated by Mid Coast Hospital will benefit.

The grant will reach more than 344,000 Mainers, according to a news release.

Access Health intends to use the awarded funds to enhance ongoing efforts that focus on local access to healthier food options in Sagadahoc County. This grant will be dedicated toworking with local farmers markets to make them more accessible to low income residents and offering free healthy cooking classes to the community.

“We value opportunities like this to join forces with other health organizations in order to have a greater impact,” said Mid Coast Health Services President and CEO Lois Skillings said. “Working together to prevent disease and improve the health of our community is a priority for all of us.”
