A man wearing a ski mask and a hoodie ran off with nothing early Monday morning at the Holiday Inn on Richardson Street.

Lt. Stan Cielinski said Wednesday that the man, wearing a ski mask, longsleeved blue hoodie and winter gloves walked into the Holiday Inn lobby shortly after 5 a.m.

“He asked for money, and the clerk said she couldn’t help him,” Cielinski related. “He took off. Officer Garrett Olson got there quickly, but they couldn’t find him.”

The clerk called in what originally was categorized as a robbery at 5:23 a.m.

“There was no threat of force and no weapon used,” Cielinski said, “so we can’t call it a robbery.”

Cielinski said that the clerk described the man as white, judging by the skin color around his mask, and about 5- 6, 130 pounds. The clerk had her back to the door when she heard someone enter, he said.

“She thought it was a younger person who was trying to sound older by making his voice sound deep,” Cielinski said.

Trashed

It’s not an uncommon problem in the city, which has a pay-per-bag trash disposal system. Some people think they can unload their trash on the property of others.

It happened again early Tuesday afternoon, at the Big Apple on Leeman Highway. A Big Apple employee reported that someone driving a pickup truck had thrown trash into the store’s Dumpster.

“It happens every so often,” Cielinski said. “Officers have some names.”

The charge would be theft of services, he said.

Camping out

Following up on a report from a woman who was out walking her dog, police have discovered that a Connecticut man has been living in the woods behind Oak Grove Cemetery for about a month.

The woman reported seeing a barefoot man without a shirt running in the cemetery around Sept. 1, Cielinski said. Later, an officer located a man who fit the description.

“He was living under a tarp,” Cielinski said. “It was neat and orderly.”

Police have referred the case to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
