GORHAM — Junior Lauren Santo scored a game-high five goals and dished off three assists as the University of Southern Maine Huskies women’s lacrosse team won its home opener Saturday, defeating the University of Maine Farmington Beavers 23-4 in a non-conference game at Hannaford Field.
The win was the second straight to open the 2012 season for the Huskies. The game was the season opener for the Beavers.
Also in the Huskies effort, Jacki Kelly of Brunswick had a goal, assist and five groundballs, and Sam Purcell of Durham chipped in with two goals and an assist.
For UMF, freshman Maddi Kadnar had two goals, and sophomore goalie Hannah Goodenow of Freeport made 12 saves.
Southern Maine travels to nationally ranked Colby College today (4:30 p.m.). UMF is off until this upcoming Sunday when it heads south to Wheelock College.
