ALFRED (AP) — Officials say a Maine jail guard suffered a concussion and required hospitalization after being injured in a skirmish with an inmate at the York County Jail.
Maj. William King of the York County Sheriff ’s Office says Sgt. Jill Brooks was injured at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when she and another corrections officer struggled with an inmate who was refusing to return to his maximumsecurity cell.
During the scuffle, the inmate fell on top of Brooks, who struck her head and lost consciousness momentarily.
Brooks was taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford, where she was treated and later released.
Officials put the jail into lockdown as a precautionary measure and were making arrangements to transfer the inmate, who wasn’t hurt.
