AUGUSTA ( AP) — Waldo County Republicans whose votes weren’t included in the announcement declaring Mitt Romney winner of Maine’s GOP caucuses last weekend want to censure state GOP Chairman Charlie Webster.
County GOP Chairman Raymond St. Onge said there was a move afoot to try to oust Webster, but ultimately they didn’t go that far.
Webster acknowledged that the Waldo votes were overlooked because of a clerical error, but said the error doesn’t change the results of the caucuses. Romney was declared the winner Saturday with Rep. Ron Paul coming in second 194 votes behind.
St. Onge says 121 votes were overlooked: 39 for Rick Santorum, 35 for Paul, 29 for Romney and 18 for Newt Gingrich.
The censure recommendation will be taken up by the state GOP Committee on March 10.
