Saint Joseph’s College will hold an evening of environmental fun and film Monday, April 6, as activist Mark Dixon presents “Your Environmental Road Trip – Going Green Across America!”
The free presentation will take place at 6 p.m. in the Viola George Auditorium of Harold Alfond Hall on the Standish campus.
Dixon will share highlights from a 50-state video documentary road trip that explores and personalizes sustainability across the country. The road trip included visits to environmentally significant destinations and interviews with more than 800 leaders, businesspeople, researchers, and average citizens from all walks of life.
The project has been featured on the Weather Channel, Voice of America, the San Francisco Chronicle, and on National Public Radio stations nationwide via the environmental news program, “Living on Earth.”
Dixon and his colleagues have also been sharing their eco-adventure with live audiences all around the country, offering up examples of “weird, wild and wonderful” approaches to sustainability.
Dixon, a graduate of Stanford University, survivor of the Internet bubble in Silicon Valley, and performance artist, is one of 1,000 climate messengers chosen and trained by Al Gore to give presentations about the climate crisis.
As evidence for global warming and resource depletion moved into prominent view, Dixon launched Your Environmental Road Trip (YERT) in the summer of 2007. The YERT team is now working on developing a feature film, additional short films, live presentations and educational curriculum based on the project.
