BRUNSWICK — Mt. Ararat Middle School traveled to Brunswick Junior High School on Tuesday for a pair of “Battle of the Bridge” contests.
In the seventh-grade game, the host Huskies earned a 5-1 victory.
Liam Driscoll scored two goals for Brunswick, while A.J. Wolverton, Robert Johnson and Zach Stern-Hayes added one each.
Mt. Ararat’s Johnny Hole scored the lone goal for the Eagles.
The Brunswick cage was manned by Stern-Hayes, Wolverton and Brady Laforge. Chris Kousky and Max Hamilton played well on defense.
Eagles keeper Jackson Byrne made more than 20 saves in a solid outing, while midfielder Parker Libby was a standout.
In a close eighth-grade battle, Mt. Ararat came away with a 1-0 victory.
Brunswick had its chances, missing a pair of open net tries.
The Eagles scored the game’s lone goal, beating standout Huskie netminder Kyle Delong (20 saves). Delong stopped a pair of penalty kicks, a first in Brunswick Junior High soccer history, according to coach Jim Wade. Gus Silverman was tireless on attack, with great defending from Matt Poulton and Tucker Gagnon.
Brunswick visits Lewiston today.
