BRUNSWICK — A week of poetry events in Brunswick will conclude tonight with a reading by Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair at Curtis Memorial Library.
The reading is a part of Poem in Your Pocket week, which organizer Anna Boll said has been going well so far.
On Thursday morning, Boll stood outside the Tontine Mall reading and handing out poems to passersby. On Thursday afternoon, she was at Edwards Field doing the same.
“It was a really great community building activity and that’s what it has been about for me and the other two organizers,” Boll said in a phone interview.
Evie Katz and Kathy Koerber joined Boll in organizing the week of events that Katz said has a unique home in Brunswick.
“The town of Brunswick has been the historical home of literary figures such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Robert Peter Tristan Coffin, and Harriet Beecher Stowe, and it is home to a vibrant literary arts community,” Katz said in a press release. “Poem in Your Pocket day will celebrate our poetry and foster a sense of community.”
McNair will begin his reading at 6:30 p.m. today in Curtis Memorial Library’s Morrell Meeting Room.
