FREEPORT — Maine farmer and Quaker minister Jennifer Wixson will sign books and answer questions about her new novel, “Hens and Chickens,” on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sherman’s Books, 128 Main St.

A news release describes the book as follows:

Just released, Wixson’s novel follows the adventures of two women downsized by corporate America who move to Maine to raise chickens and sell eggs. They discover more than they bargained for, including romance.

“Hens and Chickens” is set in the mythical small town of Sovereign, Maine (population 1,048), and features goodhearted and lovable characters, such as the old chicken farmer Wendell Russell.

Wixson lives and writes from her home in Troy, where she and her husband raise Scottish Highland cattle.
