MONHEGAN ISL —On Saturday, September 27, 2014, Mid-Coast Audubon will conduct a birding field trip to that premier Maine birding hot spot, Monhegan Island. This spot attracts migrating warblers, vireos and sparrows. Cruising overhead can be numerous raptors such as falcons, Ospreys and acciptors (bird taking hawks) looking for their next meal. Merlins, Peregrine Falcons, Kestrals, Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks can all be expected.

Those wishing to participate should meet at Port Clyde at 6:30 AM for the ferry departing at 7 AM. Advance reservation is recommended (207-372-8848). Bring binoculars, clothing appropriate for the day’s weather conditions and comfortable walking shoes. Food is available on the island but those with dietary restrictions should bring their own. If interested, please contact John Weinrich (207-563-2930) or Dennis McKenna (207-563-8439) for more information.
