BATH
U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D- 1st District, will tour Bath Iron Works today with the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee.
According to a news release, Pingree wants U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, “to see, firsthand, the modern and efficient shipbuilding facilities at Bath Iron Works.”
The tour will take place today at 12:45 p.m.
“The future of shipbuilding funding has been an issue as Congress deals with the effects of the Budget Control Act, which threatens substantial mandatory cuts in government spending starting in January,” Pingree spokesman Willy Ritch said in a news release.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
