BATH
Two people have taken out nomination papers to fill expiring seats on the board of directors in Regional School Unit 1.
The deadline to return papers to the RSU 1 Superintendent’s Office was 2 p.m. Monday.
Stephen August of Bath will be on the Nov. 6 ballot to succeed Julie Rice in District 5, which encompasses part of Bath, and the northern end of Phippsburg. Rice has served on the board since the inception of RSU 1 in 2008 and, prior to that, she was a member of the Bath School Board.
Kyle Yacoben of West Bath is running for the District 4 seat, being vacated by Chet Garrison. District 4 includes parts of Bath and West Bath. Garrison also has been on the RSU 1 board since 2008, and is a former member of the West Bath School Board during the School Union 47 era.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
