Police reported on Facebook on Tuesday they had several reports from residents who said they had received a phone call from someone stating they are from the Saco Police Department or the Maine Association of Police. The caller claims to be soliciting money to help the police with budget issues and a shortage of police officers.
“This is a scam,” wrote the police department. “Neither the Saco Police Department nor the Maine Association of Police would solicit for money in this manner.”
Police advise people if they receive phone calls asking for donations on behalf of the police department to hang up and not give any information.
The Maine Association of Police posted a response on Facebook reiterating that neither the Saco Police Department or the Maine Association of Police would engage in “cold call” solicitation of funds.

“If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is,” advised the Maine Association of Police. “Just hang up and remember; it’s shrewd to be rude.”
