The Trump administration is not really looking for “waste, fraud, and abuse.” Those are best removed with a scalpel after careful examination, not with a machete wielded haphazardly, destroying what works as well as what doesn’t.
The cuts are meant to destroy the agencies of government so that they can be rebuilt according to a new vision: an authoritarian man with unlimited power leading a conservative Christian theocracy.
In this new regime, the only people who truly matter will be aggressive, white, heterosexual male conservative Christians, especially those with money.
Things are not looking good for the rest of us. The one group who could help is Republicans in Congress. So far, they’ve refused. Some approve of the destruction; undoubtedly some fear the White House bullies; probably some don’t fully understand what’s at stake. It’s up to us to make a fuss.
