I fully understand the frustrations of many people regarding the U.S. Postal Service and not getting their mail. There seems to be a post office Catch-22 out of the Postal Service headquarters. I asked my local postmaster about getting mail, and I was told they have 10 routes and only five postal carriers, so it gets delayed.

So, I suggested they divide the town in half, delivering to one half on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and to the other half on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. I was told they cannot do that, as the postmaster general’s rule requires them to deliver five days a week and local postmasters cannot change that rule. Well, they cannot deliver five days a week!

So, here’s a simple solution: let the local postmasters run their post offices based on their number of routes, the number of carriers, the number of customers and the amount of mail. One prime directive out of the head shed (postal headquarters) is not working. Change the rule and change the man in charge.
