Perhaps the saddest consequence of the election of Donald Trump is the fact that children have witnessed the rise to power of one of the most amoral Americans in history.

We try to instill morals and values in our children as they grow. We hope that they will become happy adults with integrity who will contribute to society.

They have just seen a man with none of those values succeed in becoming president of the United States. They have watched him bully others, including disabled people, military members, fallen soldiers and grieving families. He has lied and cheated his way to the top while bragging about never admitting mistakes or apologizing. He has been convicted of assaulting women, business fraud, and he and his family were fined for stealing from charity.

He has no empathy or compassion for others and considers those who are struggling or of a different race or gender to be of lesser value. He blames others for his own failings and takes credit for their accomplishments. He denies science and thinks reading is a waste of time.

Is this the man that we want our children to emulate? Is this a role model for America? If so, I fear for the future of our country.
