Elizabeth “Sandy” Ross Lambie (Smith) Shaw

SACO – Elizabeth “Sandy” Shaw passed away Friday Aug. 12, 2022.

She was born in Detroit, Mich. on Oct. 31, 1931 to Ernest Bowman and Elizabeth Ross Lambie Smith.

She was a graduate of Alma College with a degree in chemistry and biology. She had a certificate in secondary science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. She also worked as a bacteriologist at the Henry Ford Hospital.

Sandy married Dr. G. Patrick Shaw in 1954 until his death in 1979. She taught anatomy and physiology and physics at Cooley High School in Detroit, Mich. She taught chemistry at St. Frances College after moving to Maine in 1961.

Sandy took accounting and economics at USM after her husband’s death. She owned H & R Block franchise in Biddeford and after selling it, she continued to work doing taxes for 30 years.

Sandy was a long-time member of First Parish Congregational Church UCC of Saco since 1961. She sang in the choir for 45 years and was the moderator, deacon, and Sunday school teacher.

Sandy was a member of the Saco Planning Board for 10 years, the Saco School Board for 12 years, the Saco Zoning Board for 10 years, member of the Conservation Commission for 22 years and The Salvation Army Advisory Board.

Sandy and Pat use to breed, raise and show Boxers and she was a life member of the American Boxer Club.

Sandy was a member of the St. Andrews Society of Maine. She was also a member of Clan Ross, Clan Lambie, Clan Smith and Clan Shaw.

Sandy and Pat had two children, Victoria Margaret Shaw, and George Jeffrey Shaw and his wife, Ruth. Her grandchildren are Dylan Patrick Mullen, G. Andrew Shaw and wife Bri, Connor Shaw and wife Grainne’, Olivia Binette and her husband, Trey; and a great-grandchild, Elizabeth Ryan Shaw.

An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held Saturday Sept. 3 at First Parish Congregational Church UCC, 12 Beach St., Saco, reception to follow at the church. Rev. Scott Cousineau will officiate.

Arrangements are by Dennett, Craig & Pate, 365 Main St., Saco.
