U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that nine airports across Maine have been awarded a total of $3,490,995 from the Department of Transportation. That includes $369,000 for Wiscasset Municipal Airport to remove obstructions.
This funding will support the removal of tree obstructions from the Runway 7 approach surface. Specifically, this grant funds the first phase of the project, which consists of acquiring one aviation easement for Runway 7
“Maine’s regional airports are an essential piece of our transportation network, linking communities to other parts of the state, the country, and the world,”said Collins. “By helping to improve the efficiency and safety of operations, these investments will allow these airports to continue to serve as a transportation option and support job creation in rural parts of our state.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
