BRUNSWICK – Maryalice E. Staples, of Freeport, daughter of Bertha M. and Robert J. Endlich, passed on April 29, 2019, at Mid Coast Hospital at the age of 72. She was born June 15, 1946, at River View Hospital, Red Bank, N.J.

In 1964 she graduated from Red Bank High School and went on in 1967 to graduate from Jersey Shore Medical Center School of Nursing in Neptune, N.J.  After 20 years of being an RN at the former regional Memorial Hospital in Brunswick, she worked four years at Hawthorne House in Freeport. In 1996 she retired due to ill health.

She was proud to be a “Polio Pioneer” in 1954. She took part in the first national tests of a trial Polio Vaccine.

She played all sports in school, but tennis was her favorite, winning her a trophy in 1966. Maryalice enjoyed gardening and flowers, and was given many favorable comment from friends and neighbors.

Maryalice is predeceased by her beloved brother, Thomas Endlich, in 1962 and longtime companion, Jesse A. Dunning, Sr., in 2004. She leaves a daughter, Sheryl A. Smith of Bowdoin; a granddaughter Amber (Smith) Stuart and her husband Ben Stuart of Harpswell; two great-grandchildren she was so proud to have, Emmett and Tiffany, loves of her life.

Maryalice also leaves a brother, Robert W. Endlich and his close companion Sandi Lawson of Las Cruces, N.M.; two nieces; one great-niece, one great-nephew; and one great-grandnephew.

At her request there will be no funeral. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Middletown, N.J.
