WATERBORO — The town of Waterboro will host a public auction on Saturday on about three dozen properties claimed for unpaid taxes stretching back three years.

All of the properties, with the exception of a few, consist of land only.

Many of the parcels are in the Lake Arrowhead subdivision. Many are described as forested, while others have water frontage.

Selectmen have decided against requiring minimum bids in order to get the properties back on the tax rolls, said Town Administrator Gary Lamb. He said back taxes, fees and interest will be abated to zero for the new owner.

‘The town has not filed new deeds to take full ownership nor have we evicted any tenants in the few lots with structures,” Lamb further explained. “Instead we have worked hard with occupied structures to evict no one, but get them to get current with their taxes.”

Some properties originally on the list have been removed, because the owners have paid the taxes or are in the process of doing so.

One property that had been expected to draw interest was an unoccupied home on Middle Road. Lamb on Wednesday said the trust that owns the property has paid the taxes in full.

The auction is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Waterboro town hall at 24 Townhouse Road.
