SACO — A fire that destroyed a garage on Monday in Saco may have originated with a motorcycle that had been left running inside the building.

Firefighters responded to a call at 78 Jenkins Road around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, said Chief John Duross.

Duross said firefighters arrived to find a detached two car garage heavily involved in a fire.

Duross didn’t have an exact dollar figure on the loss caused by the fire, but said the garage, along with three motorcycles, two cars and a small tractor was completely destroyed. He said some of the vinyl siding melted on the house situated nearby the garage, but otherwise the home had no damage.

There were no injuries, said Duross.

Duross said the homeowner had started a motorcycle in the garage and then went back into the house. He said it is believed the fire originated from the motorcycle, though firefighters could not further investigate the cause due to the amount of damage done to the garage.

Duross said firefighters left the scene around 7 p.m.

Fire departments from Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough and Goodwins Mills assisted.
