TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School softball team went run for run with Auburn in a 13-12 victory on Wednesday.
The Eagles came out swinging and ended with every player putting the ball in play. Mt. Ararat had 14 hits to Auburn’s eight. Megan Reed and Emily Bontatibus led the attack with three hits apiece. Both had two singles and a double.
Holding a one-run lead in the seventh, Lillie Singleton made a catch to end the game with the tying run on second.
Gabby West had a two-run triple and a single, Tori Hersey chipped in with a single and a double, Singleton got two singles, and Kaylee Bergeron and Avery Giles each singled for the Eagles. Reed scored three times, and Singleton and Bergeron added a pair of runs each.
Mt. Ararat had solid pitching performances from West and Reed. West pitched three innings and struck out eight, walked five and allowed five hits. Reed pitched four innings, struck out nine, walked two and allowed three hits.
