Mustard Seed Bookstore will celebrate local young poets this week.
The store will host the event at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, in which awards will be presented. This was the second year of the contest presented by Mustard Seed, designed for Regional School Unit 1 students in grades six through 12. Students were invited earlier this year to submit poetry for the competition and the award winners will be announced at the event.
The evening will be emceed by local Irish-American poet, Helene McGlauflin. McGlauflin is a school counselor at Harriett Beecher Stowe, a yoga instructor and published poet. She will share some of her own poetry and then open up the mic for students to share their own poems.
The award winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
The event is free of charge and open to the public.
Mustard Seed Bookstore is located at 74 Front St.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
